Frequently Asked Questions

Things to look for when purchasing wireless cameras

There are several different wireless camera systems on the market today.  The main thing you want to look for is what frequency it is on.  All of our systems unless otherwise noted are on 2.4ghz and have fixed matching frequencies on the transmitter and receiver which means no tuning required.  If you are comparing wireless systems and the receiver has a tuning knob on it, it is not 2.4ghz and most likely a 1.2ghz system.
Range is generally speaking, limited to the power of the transmitter and reception capabilities of the receiver antenna. Transmitters are limited to how much power they can output by the FCC so all wireless devices in that same frequency band can be used in a reasonable amount of range and not interfere with one another.  Therefore the cameras have a FCC id on them which means you can use them without a special license unless otherwise noted.   To increase the range of these we offer antennas that interchange on the receiver end that are more sensitive which increases the range of your unit without increasing the power of the transmitter.

What is Line of sight?

Line of sight or “open air” is in an area free of obstructions such as walls, trees, buildings, or any object between the camera antenna and receiver antenna.  Depending on the object, this can reduce the reception range of the signal.  Interference is not usually noticed but can be caused by other devices such as 2.4ghz phones and other electronic devices.  Omni directional antennas in theory have 360 degree coverage horizontally and vertically, however dead spots are possible and reception distance is can be lesser at different angles.  Camera system was tested in an open parking lot area and max horizontal range was 1000ft, some breakups in signal were observed.  Optional 8 dbi receiver antenna in the same area, tested at a max horizontal range of 2000ft. Your results may vary.

Can I power my receiver using a battery?

Yes you can. We now offer a 12 volt battery cable that can be used on most of our receivers. Another safe option is to use a power inverter and use the A/C adaptor with a 12v battery.  Using home made power devices is at your own discretion and the warranty does not cover damage caused by modifying the equipment for power uses not included with the system.

What is the warranty on the systems?

All systems and components have a 30 day warranty from sale date for defects in operation.  Systems are tested before shipment, however if it does not work when you get it, call or email us and return it for a replacement. You are responsible for shipment to Micro Wireless and we will cover the shipment back to you.   If your system is damaged because of your use, then you will have to buy a replacement.

Legal note:

Micro Wireless does not assume any responsibility from any consequences of illegal conducts by the users of our systems. Amateur systems require an Amateur Radio license in order to operate.  Operate in an appropriate manner with regards to your location.
